Since then, I've looked forward to the boy-meets-girl subplots that always crop up in his middle-grade novels and often find myself yearning for more about the relationship and less of the actual plot! But then the book would be in the wrong genre. Maybe what I really need is more D. Spangler books...
Of course, Clopper is smart not to bog down his middle-grade fantasy in romance. There's way too much fun to be had what with all the bizarre monsters and creative spells.
