OFFICIAL RECOMMENDED READING ORDER

Posted on December 28, 2018

Since many readers have come on board through my Irving Wishbutton series, I thought I'd recommend an order to reading the rest of my projects. That's 25 books to engage your ripe melon.

Irving Wishbutton

This four-book series delivers a ton of memorable characters along with a mystery embedded in a fantasy setting. But you already know that since you've read it and are now thirsty for more of my inspired creations.

Here is Where I . . . Wield a Really Big Sword
I love the Fates in this standalone novel. The main character must fill some big shoes, while also figuring out his place in a world that is suddenly filled with magic.

Bring On the Magic
This is the perfect book to follow Here Is Where I . . . Wield a Really Big Sword because it digs into similar territory. Readers will enjoy spotting the similarities and differences in these two books. It doesn't hurt that this is my take on my favorite Marvel character, Doctor Strange.

Ned Firebreak
This makes the seventh book in your tour of all things Clopper and this one is a hoot. Much like Irving Wishbutton, this is a fantasy mystery. The main character has amnesia and must find out his sorted relationship to dragons and a gaggle of princesses. I had a wonderful time developing each princess into their own multi-faceted characters. Stacia and Aunt Nance from Irving Wishbutton are part of the cast, and readers will enjoy contrasting how this Stacia stacks up to her younger self at the Questing Academy before she wound up published.

Graham the Gargoyle
I love how this series builds each character through its three volumes. Flenn, Ot, Graham, and Blord all grow so much. Plus, it has the Flying Mummy, Cascade's number one mystical hero. I am proud of the world building in this series and how Easter eggs in the earlier books pay off later in the series.

Fractured and Unearthed
Congrats, you've made it through ten of my works. You are either a glutton for punishment or a discerning reader of fine literature. My fragile ego assumes the former, while the part of my persona buried deep down that believes I'm the best thing to come along since sliced bread fervently believes the latter. Anyway, this two-book series penned with the talented Keith Robinson is incredibly original. I can't think of a writing collaboration quite like it. We both wrote alternating chapters with our characters, guiding them across a wasteland to converge and commingle in a lovely team-up chapter that is a sight to behold. This is my book that has gotten the most comments how it would make a great movie series, and I can totally see it. If you like scorpions and saber-toothed tigers, you'll delight in the carnivorous kalibacks in this epic. Do yourself a favor and stick your nose in these books.

Burnt Jesus
Jesusi from other alternate realities are being murdered, and it's up to Leon Spingle and Burnt Jesus, along with several other quirky saviors, to hunt down their murderer. Their investigation takes them to numerous realities and even a brief stint in Hell. I wrote this humorous science fiction mystery under a pen name because I worried the subject matter might ruffle some feathers. Fans of Douglas Adams and the Inferno series by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle will enjoy this whodunnit.

The Powers That Flee
This book is my love letter to nerd culture from the eighties. It combines superpowers, time travel, and deadly Izod shirts to tell a coming-of-age tale where the heroes must do more than just defeat the villain, they must save him. This is probably one of my favorites simply because I drew from a great deal of my own experiences in telling it.

Ghost Coast
This eighties supernatural story is a very different ghost story. It deals with loss and letting go and comes up with a clever answer to the mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke.

Turncoats
Have you always wanted to read a zombie apocalypse story that also served as a coming-of-age tale? Then this three-volume series (the third book should be released in 2020) is right up your alley. And how the zombies evolve at the end of the second book is a game changer and one that has never been done with the undead before. This series has been praised for its two strong leads, and I really enjoy writing their back and forth.

Angus Farseek

This twisty time travel epic is a ton of fun. it has to be read just to see how I pay homage to H. G. Wells.

We Kill Humans

This opening volume of my alien invasion magnum opus is also high up there in my favorites. The strange circumstances of the invasion set this apart from your typical aliens descend on Earth tale.

Flame and Fortune
A warmhearted buddy fantasy tale with a will-o'-wisp that steals the show.

Tagalong
The joy in this tale is putting a bully and his victim together and having them survive a magical quest together. There's also a keen mystery to be solved.

Monsters in Boxers

Boxers shorts that utilize nanotechnology to empower their wearer in unique monstrous ways? You bet. The character of Troy is one of my favorites as he allowed me to explore a young protagonist coping with ADHD. The villainous Horde Lord is pretty memorable, too.

We Three Meet
This rom-com is self aware. In that respect, this serves as a science fiction story with romantic underpinnings. Fans of Irving Wishbutton's self awareness as a character will like this different approach to the same theme. The male and female leads both become aware they are characters in a book being guided to each other by an author intent on seeing them fall in love. One is on board, while the other refuses to play nice. This underrated story would play well as a streaming series.

Decisive Magic
I mine the rom-com genre with a science fiction slant yet again. Here, a phone app lets you navigate through the romantic entanglement in choose-your-own-adventure style.

Wonderstorms
This short story anthology that I put together features an end-of-days story I penned that is a nice compliment to Burnt Jesus. The other authors in this collection are whip-smart and absolutely wonderful, too.

As you can see, my creative output is wide-ranging and filled with inventive concepts, strong world building, and fleshed-out, engaging characters.

Go ahead, take the plunge. Toss a few Brian Clopper books a year into your reading mix. You won't be disappointed.

If you read and review four, let me know and I will send you a signed copy of my Marvin the Dragon birthday comic for being such a fan.
